About Us
Drugs and Alcohol Are Not the Problem
Addiction is rarely about the substance itself. Whether it’s alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, or even food, the behaviour is often a response to emotional pain, trauma, stress, or unresolved issues. People don’t usually start using because they want to — they use because, at some point, it became a way to cope.
Detoxing a person safely is only the beginning. While medically monitored detox is essential for breaking physical dependence, it does not treat the emotional or psychological reasons a person felt the need to use in the first place. Completing detox alone can be relatively quick — but long-term recovery requires much more than removing the substance.
Real change happens in rehabilitation.
At ESH Community, the rehabilitation stage is where individuals begin to understand themselves and the root causes of their addiction. Through counselling, therapeutic group work, education sessions, and ongoing support, residents start to build healthier coping mechanisms, emotional resilience, and long-term recovery strategies.
Without this support, the pattern repeats. If someone detoxes but is not safely supported in a structured, understanding environment, those painful emotions resurface and feel overwhelming. Without new tools or guidance, the brain defaults to what it knows: alcohol or drugs as a coping mechanism. This is how relapse happens, even with the best intentions.
Recovery isn’t about stopping something — it’s about changing something.
At ESH Community, we help residents separate from substances, safely explore what’s underneath, and begin building a new way of living. With 24/7 support, structure and care, individuals finally have the space and guidance needed to break the cycle and move forward.

Who Experiences Addiction?
Addiction does not discriminate. It affects people from every background, income level and stage of life. One of the most damaging myths is the belief that addiction only affects certain types of people. The truth is very different and far more human.
At ESH Community all members of our team including management have lived experience of addiction and are now trained and qualified professionals. We know first-hand that addiction is not about weakness or a lack of character.
In our experience many people who develop addiction issues are among the most thoughtful, intelligent, sensitive and caring individuals you could meet. We see this every day in our team who are in recovery and in the residents we support where these strengths are often hidden behind addiction.
We use the term in recovery because recovery is not a single event. It is a lifelong process of becoming your true self, learning healthier coping tools and feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Professional and Experienced Staff
A key part of ongoing recovery is helping others who are on the same journey. Giving back rebuilds confidence and self-esteem and allows people to use their knowledge, personal experience and strengths in a meaningful and purposeful way.
At ESH Community all staff are professionally qualified and also have their own lived experience of addiction. A large number of our team have been residents here themselves and have walked the very same path as the people they now support. We know what we are talking about not because we studied it first but because we have lived it. We understand the fear, uncertainty and emotional weight that come with addiction and we understand how difficult it can be to take the first step into recovery.
We are passionate about our own recovery and we are equally passionate about supporting others with theirs.
Most importantly, we understand what it takes to build and maintain a life free from alcohol and drugs and to break the chaos and cycle of addiction.
Public Health England and the NHS now recognise that support from trained professionals with lived experience offers one of the strongest foundations for long-term recovery. When someone is supported by a person who has been where they are now they feel seen, understood and less alone.
In our experience the most effective addiction support comes from people who have lived through addiction, found recovery and discovered purpose in helping others. When someone has a passion for what they do they are naturally better at it and our staff bring that passion into their work every day.
Our team live the values and principles of recovery both in their personal lives and in their professional roles. They lead by example which makes them the most authentic and relatable teachers a person could have.
Formal qualifications in health and social care are essential but there is no substitute for lived experience. When professional training and personal experience come together they create a powerful combination that truly supports change.
Aftercare and Long-Term Recovery
Recovery does not end when a person leaves residential treatment. Addiction is a progressive illness and stopping is only the first step. Staying stopped and building a stable and fulfilling life in recovery is where the real work begins.
To support long-term stability ESH Community provides a structured and ongoing aftercare programme which includes:
- Two follow-up counselling sessions after discharge
- Weekly in-house recovery meetings for former residents
- One to one sessions if required
- Family support and education sessions
- Introduction to local mutual aid groups and recovery communities
- Peer support to attend external meetings if needed
- 24/7 phone support
Two follow up counselling sessions are provided the first one being a month after the resident leaves ESH, these counselling sessions along side the other aftercare options provide the best chance of ongoing recovery and a smooth transition into the community.
Our Tuesday night in-house aftercare meeting is at the heart of our aftercare support. Any former resident is welcome to return and sit alongside current residents for a recovery meeting run by staff members. These meetings offer connection and continued support and they also give hope to current residents as they see real examples of people living well in recovery.
We can also offer one to one support if someone needs additional guidance. Many lasting friendships and recovery networks have started through this support and through shared lived experience. It allows people to stay connected with others who truly understand because they have walked the same path.
Long-term recovery is built from support, routine and connection. Our aftercare is designed to ensure every resident remains linked into a recovery network that supports ongoing progress, confidence and wellbeing.
Detox & Rehab Packages at ESH Community
At ESH Community, we provide safe, structured, and person-centred detox and rehabilitation programmes for individuals seeking help with alcohol addiction, drug dependence, and other substance-related issues. Our approach combines medically monitored detox, therapeutic support, and a calm countryside environment — creating the ideal setting for residents to begin their recovery.
As a small, male-only residential rehab centre in Warwickshire, we typically support around six residents at a time. This allows us to offer highly personalised care, with staff who get to know each resident individually. Our experienced team work closely with each person to manage withdrawals safely, understand the emotional and behavioural causes of addiction, and develop practical tools for long-term recovery.
If you are looking for a private rehab that provides safe detoxification, structured therapy, and ongoing aftercare, ESH Community offers a supportive, focused environment tailored to early recovery.
