Care Quality Commission – Report Summary
We rated this service as GOOD because people received safe, recovery focused care in a supportive and therapeutic environment.
- There were effective systems in place to manage risks during detox and recovery. People were closely monitored during higher risk periods using structured observations and recognised clinical approaches, with proportionate use of technology enabled monitoring where required and with consent. Records included risk assessments and monitoring information that was reviewed regularly and reflected people’s current needs.
- Staff had the training and support they needed to deliver safe care, and staffing levels were a key strength. Mandatory training and specialist training supported safe care delivery.
- The environment was safe, clean and well maintained. Indoor spaces supported safe care delivery, and people had access to a therapeutic outdoor area as part of the recovery programme. Environmental risks, including fire safety, infection prevention and control, and medicines safety, were identified and managed through clear systems and records.
- People were supported to engage in recovery during and after admission. The service provided a structured programme of activities and therapies, alongside planned follow up and aftercare, which helped people to maintain progress following discharge. Where people agreed, families were involved to support continuity and ongoing recovery.
- Governance and oversight arrangements supported consistent delivery of safe care, with systems in place to review performance, manage risks and respond to feedback from people using the service.
- Staff demonstrated a compassionate understanding of the impact patients’ care and treatment could have on their emotional and social wellbeing. People were positive about the care they received from staff.
- Staff said they felt respected, supported and valued. Staff reported they were positive and proud to work for the provider. Staff described the leadership team as having a focus on staff well-being and ensured a culture promoting good practice, good quality, and safe care and treatment.

- The service demonstrated effective audit processes to support oversight of safety and quality, alongside innovative practice. This included the proportionate use of technology to support safe observation during detox, with consent, and the sharing of its detox model and learning with other services to support wider improvement in substance misuse care.
