Cocaine Addiction

Deciding to address cocaine addiction is a significant and often scary step. At ESH Community Rehab we support families and individuals affected by cocaine addiction through personalised, clinically informed care. If you are concerned about your own use of cocaine or worried about someone close to you, our specialist team is here to guide you through the next steps. This page answers some common questions around cocaine dependency, detox and residential treatment at our Warwickshire-based rehab centre.

Understanding Cocaine

Cocaine is a powerful and highly addictive stimulant drug that affects the central nervous system. It produces short-lived euphoric effects such as increased energy, alertness and confidence. These effects occur because cocaine stimulates the brain’s pleasure pathways, particularly dopamine and serotonin. However, the effects wear off quickly, often within an hour, which can lead to repeated use and a cycle of craving and dependency. Forms such as crack cocaine reach the bloodstream even faster, resulting in a quicker but shorter high, further increasing the risk of addiction.

What Is Cocaine Addiction?

Cocaine addiction develops when repeated use of the drug alters the brain’s chemistry. The brain begins to “remember” cocaine as its main source of pleasure, leading the individual to believe that the only way to achieve feelings of well-being is through continued use. Over time, tolerance builds, meaning more of the drug is required to experience the same effects. This creates a strong dependency that can severely impact both physical and mental health, relationships, work and overall quality of life.

Detox & Rehab Packages at ESH Community

At ESH Community, we provide safe, structured, and person-centred detox and rehabilitation programmes for individuals seeking help with alcohol addiction, drug dependence, and other substance-related issues. Our approach combines medically monitored detox, therapeutic support, and a calm countryside environment — creating the ideal setting for residents to begin their recovery.

As a small, male-only residential rehab centre in Warwickshire, we typically support around six residents at a time. This allows us to offer highly personalised care, with staff who get to know each resident individually. Our experienced team work closely with each person to manage withdrawals safely, understand the emotional and behavioural causes of addiction, and develop practical tools for long-term recovery.

If you are looking for a private rehab that provides safe detoxification, structured therapy, and ongoing aftercare, ESH Community offers a supportive, focused environment tailored to early recovery.

Risks of Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine use carries significant physical and psychological risks. These can include heart problems, irregular heartbeat, stroke, seizures, and a greatly increased risk of sudden death. Cocaine can also have a serious impact on mental health, contributing to anxiety, paranoia, low mood, and in some cases psychosis.

Over time, regular cocaine use can damage relationships, employment, finances, and overall well being. Many people find that tolerance develops quickly, leading to increased use and greater risk, while the effects on mood and mental health often worsen between periods of use.

Read all FAQs

  • Can you become addicted to cocaine?

Yes. Cocaine is highly addictive, both physically and psychologically. Regular use alters the brain’s dopamine system, making it dependent on cocaine to feel pleasure or motivation. This often leads to strong cravings, loss of control and a compulsive pattern of use despite negative consequences.

  • What are the signs of cocaine addiction?

Common signs and symptoms of cocaine addiction include:

    • Dilated pupils and frequent nosebleeds
    • Restlessness, talkativeness and bursts of high energy
    • Periods of exhaustion or depression after use
    • Anxiety, paranoia or aggression
    • Financial problems and secrecy around drug use
    • Neglecting work, family or personal responsibilities
    • Cravings and repeated failed attempts to stop

If you recognise these signs in yourself or someone else, professional help is strongly recommended.

  • What does cocaine withdrawal feel like?

Cocaine withdrawal is mostly psychological, not physical. When the drug is stopped, people often experience:

    • Intense fatigue and low mood
    • Anxiety and restlessness
    • Strong cravings for the drug
    • Poor concentration and disturbed sleep
    • Increased appetite
    • Feelings of irritability or agitation

These symptoms can be distressing, which is why a supported detox environment like ESH Community helps ensure safety, structure and emotional care.

  • How long does cocaine detox take?

The withdrawal phase of cocaine addiction usually begins within 24 hours of the last use and can last up to 7–10 days. Cravings and mood fluctuations may persist for several weeks. At ESH Community detox is tailored to individual needs, monitored daily by trained professionals and supported by counselling and peer interaction to reduce relapse risk.

  • What treatments are available for cocaine addiction at ESH Community?

Our treatment programmes are designed to address both the physical effects of cocaine use and the underlying emotional causes. Support includes:

    • Medically monitored detox to manage withdrawal safely
    • One to one therapy sessions with our BACP accredited counsellors

  • Is cocaine addiction treatment confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a core value at ESH Community. All personal information, assessments, and treatment records are kept strictly private, in accordance with GDPR and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards.

  • What happens after cocaine addiction treatment?

Recovery continues beyond residential rehab. To maintain progress, ESH Community offers ongoing aftercare and relapse prevention support, including:

    • Follow-up counselling sessions
    • Weekly aftercare and recovery meetings

  • How can I help a friend or family member with cocaine addiction?

Our Process

  • 1. Initial Pre-Admission Visit

At ESH Community, we encourage all potential residents and families to attend a free no obligation pre-admission visit. This visit is relaxed and informal, giving the individual and families the chance to meet the team, ask questions, and learn more about our detox and rehabilitation programme.

A pre-admission visit also helps people feel more comfortable by seeing the environment, understanding daily routines, and gaining clarity on what residential rehab involves. Many find this step reassuring and helpful when deciding on the right treatment option.

To book a pre-admission visit or speak to a member of the team, contact us via our website, Whatsapp or call 01926 811702.

  • 2. Medically Monitored Detox

When a resident arrives at ESH Community, their treatment begins with a medically monitored detox. This process is overseen by our specialist addiction psychiatrist, who completes a full assessment before prescribing an individual detox plan tailored to the resident’s needs.

A typical detox lasts around 7–8 days, although this may vary depending on the substance involved and the person’s health history. Throughout this period, our trained staff provide 24/7 monitoring, reassurance, and practical support to ensure safety and comfort at every stage.

Our focus is to make detox as calm, dignified, and manageable as possible, creating a stable foundation for the therapeutic rehabilitation work that follows.

  • 3. Residential Rehabilitation Program

Once detox is complete, residents begin a structured rehabilitation programme designed to support emotional, psychological, and physical recovery. Each resident receives two one-to-one counselling sessions per week with an accredited BACP counsellor, alongside daily therapeutic group sessions. These sessions help individuals explore the underlying causes of addiction, including thinking patterns, behaviours, and emotional triggers.

In the evenings, residents attend local AA/NA fellowship meetings to build early connections within the recovery community and begin developing long-term peer support networks.

This structured approach helps rebuild routine, purpose, and accountability — elements often disrupted during active addiction — while supporting long-term, sustainable recovery.

  • 4. Holistic Therapies and Activities

Alongside therapeutic work, residents also take part in gentle physical and wellbeing activities designed to improve both physical and emotional health. These include yoga, tai chi, personal training sessions, and countryside walks — all helping to restore routine, confidence, and motivation.

Each week, residents also take part in our dedicated “Spiritual Day”, where they are introduced to meditation, breathwork, and acupuncture. These activities support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and help individuals reconnect with themselves in a calm and grounded way.

This holistic approach complements the therapeutic programme and supports the development of healthy lifestyle habits that can be carried into long-term recovery.

  • 5. Family Awareness and Guidance

Family involvement begins from the very first point of contact. Addiction affects not only the individual, but the wider family system — and in many cases, it is family members who reach out to us first. From that moment, we offer guidance, reassurance, and information to help families understand the recovery process for the individual and what to expect.

As the resident approaches the end of their placement, we arrange a dedicated family call involving the key people in their life. This conversation focuses on preparing for life after rehab, setting healthy boundaries, managing expectations, and understanding how best to support a loved one in early recovery.

Our relationship with families does not end when the resident leaves, we remain available for ongoing awareness and guidance helping both the resident and their family to continue building stability, trust, and long-term recovery together.

  • 6. Aftercare and Ongoing Support

Aftercare is a core part of the support we provide at ESH Community. Every resident receives two follow-up counselling sessions after leaving the programme to help with the transition back into day-to-day life and maintain the progress made during treatment.

We also run a weekly Tuesday evening aftercare group at the rehab, open to all former residents. This provides a safe space to return, reconnect, and receive continued support. These sessions are extremely valuable not only for those attending, but also for current residents, who benefit from hearing the experiences of people who have been exactly where they are now.

In addition, past residents can request further one-to-one support if needed, ensuring nobody feels alone in their recovery journey. Our team also remains available by phone 24/7 should someone require guidance, reassurance, or help during difficult moments.

Our aftercare programme helps build long-term stability, confidence, and connection — supporting recovery well beyond the time spent in treatment.
